Cleaning your Locks
Keeping up your door lock maintenance is an important step in your home security and general cleanliness of your home. If neglected your door lock can become damaged or broken, which could result in unnecessary extra costs to replace your lock where it could’ve been avoided if maintained.
How to Clean a Door Lock
To clean the external part of your door lock, a damp cloth with mild dish soap is usually sufficient as the external parts of a lock are coated to protect it from the elements.
If nothing else, to clean and keep your locks in good working order internally, spray a lock lubricant or graphite powder into your locks every 1-3 months. Do not use WD-40 or petroleum jelly in or around your locks, these create a sticky residue that can cause more dirt and debris to build up and more issues in the long run.
